| History of Alpha
Sigma Pi Fraternity
Sixty years ago, three
undergraduate gentlemen gathered together to discuss the
founding of a second fraternity on campus. These three
young men believed that the fraternity’s core ideals
should emphasize academics. The three gentlemen met
with seven other men to form the Charter of Alpha Sigma
Pi. The Charter was signed by Gallaudet University
president Leonard M, Elstad, on October 25, 1947. Every
year the fraternity celebrates its founding on October
25th. Over eight hundred and fifty men have been recorded on the
schools of the fraternity. Over the years, Alpha Sigma
Pi has held true to its original beliefs, but with an
emphasis on
Non scholar sed
vitae discimus
“We learn not for school, but for life.”
